dub mechanic wanted in grimsby area....professional
looking for someone that knows what they are doing, not ruff as fook and cant be arsed!
basically, i am in the middle of refurbing a 1.8 8v gti engine to go in my golf. completely stripped it, about to paint it. got new gasket kits for top and bottom end, new stem seals and just bought some gapless piston rings....cost me a fortune
now i want somebody with a bit of finesse and knowlege to advise me on fitting the rings properly. they come with a big warning leaflet about getting them in the right way round and file fit the gap. now i am a qualified aircraft fitter with 16 years in precision engineering, so please dont try and help unless you really do know what you are on about......
has anybody ever used them before? they are made by total seal in america if that helps

yeah this is exactly what i meant. everybody knows everything about mechanics but when it comes down to the finer bits and bobs like engine building its not quite that simple. i think i have found someone in ming ming. he has raced f2 stock cars for 20 years. builds the whole cars from scratch. they are powered by a 2l pinto engine with race components so he should know his stuff.......hopefully!!!

sorry for spamming you jim, was only a joke.
if he fails you have you thought about humberside engines in scunthorpe?
he rebuilt my t4 head (twice, long story) and apparently builds v8 race engines as well. i can get you his details if you are interested.

jim i can build engines, all i have to do is look at the piston rings you have so i can see what you mean about the right way to put em on

Just out of interest what made you go for gapless rings?
Ive fitted them before and they are fairly time consuming to do and there is not too much gain involved either. If i remember rightly there is still a gap anyway, but its the way they overlap that makes them different.
I doubt you will have this problem on yours as im guessing it is N/A but on mine i was always reminded of the dangers in running high boost (300ZX Twinturbo) as if you dont have everthing perfectly set up it can blow the second gapless ring to part under hard detonation.
I never experienced this although the conrod decided to poke out the block on a last run at the pod
