Gearbox Troubles

Hey guys. This weekend on the M6 my gearbox decided to chew itself.

As you may or may not know, the boxes are the same as the poverty spec'd MK4 gearbox, which is held together inside with rivits which eventually wear and snap.. The refurb companys make a mint from replacing these in customers gearboxes with stainless steel bolts.

What im wondering is, does anyone have a basic knowledge of how this could be done myself? i took appart a motorbike gearbox once, and it was a nightmare to put back together..

This is the second box this car has had in the last 2 years.. Preferably i want to make an indistrucatble box to put in so i dont have to go through this again.
The refurb companys do the bear minimum to make the box work again, and sometimes just pressure wash it and put new rivets in and sell it as new.
I dont want to be ripped off again, as i was told the last one was a re-conditioned one!

Any help would be much appreciated.

P.s for people that dont know me.. i have a 6n2 polo gti, its a W reg

If worse comes to worse, a skater friend from Edition38 tells me he can get it rebuilt for £250 which sounds good.

Im going to get saving either way, and let you know when we can whip it off and have a looksi!!

Also read the part about correctly filling the box with oil. All the negative feedback from similar companies is put down to this. It makes it sound difficult.. But it isnt.. right?
