gearbox oils
not vw related... but... got a mr2 in px on my ashtray sri, seems the gearbox has a fair whine to it, checked the oil and its full of wet light brown sick coloured fluid that dosnt feel very oily at all between ya fingers.... i know there cars eat gearboxes as have had mr2 turbos etc before but this is a n/a jobby so has had too harder life, im gonna drain it out on saturday but could do with recommendations on a replacement gearbox oil, need about 4.5 litres and to try and shut the gearbox up a bit it could do with being thick, probs like tractor gearbox oil....
lol...
ideas of where to get cheap thick gearbox oil from??
i know the gearbox is more than likely foobarred, but it runs so well and dosnt crunch so assume its probs just a bearing on input shaft but if i cant quieten it down a bit without too much hassle ill be happy...
ideas on a postcard please..

Re: gearbox oils
im not familiar with what type of gear oil they use but im sure if you check out whatr the manufacturers spec is and compare it to other various viscossities of gear oil available im sure you caould come up witha solution, just have a snoop around the web to see what sorta stuffs out there then check the motor factors that are local to you and this should healp you decide which plan of action to take...... just an idea

Ive used this stuff on several occasions and it has stopped gearbox rumbles and whine down every time.A lot of jap boys use it as do a lot of VAG slags.
Im guessing you dont want to spend that much so just wang some EP90 in as it is thick and cheap as chips.
If your planning on selling on and dont want the noise heard, stick a 4 finger kit kat in there before the test drive.
