Phat & Slow Mk4
Hey all, got this beaut the beggining of 2011, not done anything to it as of yet really apart from a change of headunit and sorting out soundsystem cabling etc. but i do have plans for it, heres a few pix
This was the pic in the advert:
This was the golf the morning after she arrived home:
This is the new head unit setup:
As she is ryding a bit sky high at the back, i orderd some goodies that arrived the other day. They will be getting fitted shortly but im trying to arrange funds for some other plans iv got in mind. Im trying to achieve a simmilar hight to this or a bit lower but not to low to compensate for my wheels (sorry,i just love to be pimpin in style)
This is what il be using to achieve my desired drop (If my wheels dont get in the way)
Thats it for now but will update if i change something and keep evryone updated

Fingers crossed mate, springs came from avo race spec ll coilies, brand new and un-used but not 100% they will fit just yet, some1 pointed out that the springs from coilies are narrow compared to stock on the rears for the mk4, and as i didnt get adjusters they might not fit. i would have thaught they would tho coz iv her of people wanting to go lower when there coilies had maxed out and they just took out the adjusters. thats my plan anyway so will see how they go

This means i can test the new ride hight out sooner than i thaught
Il keep you updated with pics etc once iv desided to make a start on the car

Re: Phat & Slow Mk4
are the rs6 reps 19's? they look big.
as for the springs, they possibly wont sit in the top mounts porperly. or the spring plate for that matter. worth a try though-they dont look overly narrow
edit. just drive around with a lemski in the boot. job done

Ye, the rs6's are 19's but as to wether they are reps i dont know yet, will be finding out at the same time of the trial fit of the springs, i think that is the only way to see if it will fit, the top of the spring will defo fit ,its the bottom that i am woried about but will just have to wate and see......
....recon im gonna try it out on monday/tuesday if the weathers good
Il keep you all posted

I guess this isn't a real GTI? I'm a fan of the interior, never seen one like that in a mk4 before. Had a similar one in my vento. Is that a cheeky bifta in your mouth in the pic?

UPDATE!!! SPRINGS INSTALLED!!! UPDATE!!!
Hey peeps, managed to get my rear springs fitted today, il talk you through what i did and will apologise now if my pictures confuse you as they are not of each side,i kinda took a picture of the driverside, then the next step i may have taken a picture of the passenger side etc.... this is what the ride hight was and iv got a pak of 20 richmond kingsize for comparison, this is the before and after:
Stock hight :
avo springs :
Its a nice drop but nothing too low, think it sits just right. anyway this is what i did:::
Get the car on sutable flat ground and make sure you have room to work
Get a stopper of some sort to wedge infront of the front wheels (i used some bricks), slacken the wheel nuts on both rearwheels and leave one of the forward gears engaged (not sure whats best but i used 4th)
Then raise the car with a jack and leave on axle stands
next job is to take the wheels off ,use a troly jack to support the axle under the spring(i.e where the spring seat is and you can getaway with supporting it on 1side,the axle will flex a little but aslong as you do it slowly and you dont leave it hanging too long you will be oright) and start undooing the bolts holding the damper to the axle
Once the axle is free from both dampers you can slowly lower the troly jack untill the spring comes away from the chassy. keep the axel supported and give the spring a shake/perswation to get it away from the spring seat, once you have coverd this step both sides should look like this:
This is the new spring next to the old 1 :
Using the rubber bush that is found on the top of the old spring, squeez it into place at the top of the new spring and it should look like so:
now you may find it useful to have a second pair of hands here to healp position the spring.....
Make sure the ruber bush is against the chassy (it sits on a rather larg nipple looking stump ) and rais the trolly jack until the spring sits on the base without support and without being compressed, the next few pix will show you how i positiond the spring before the base plate could hold it....
be sure to seat the spring around the circular lip in the middle of the base plate!
once you have done this, you need to rais the jack a bit more while holding the damper in position. keep raising it till the holes line up with the base of the damper and insert the bolt throuth to hold the axel in place allowing you to move the jack so you are able to do the same to the other side
at this point you should tighten the bolts holding the dampers and axle togeather
after all that i decided to have a brake from luying on the floor, have a fag and investigate my alloys.....
This pic is for dave just to show he was right about my FAKE wheels
Break over...........
after double checking the springs were seated corectly on the baseplate and the bush at the top i gave the lower damper bolts a little nip just to make sure they wernt going anywhere and procieded to put the wheels back on (soz for dodgy quality on this one)
Now this was the moment of truth
I started lowering the car on the driver side in the hopes all the weight being pushed over would take it lower than what it would be when all foure wheels where on the floor but it was higher and i almost started to feel disapointed what a bright spark i was haha anyway after mu dull moment i lowerd the car on the otherside, walked back round to the drivers side and just gauped in happyness
sat and had another fag while i looked at the car and just apreciated all the fine lines hahaha
anyway, i took a couple more pix of the new ride hight,i can gladly report that the wheels dont scrape even on the inside of the wheel arch which i am happy about but i dont know how the ryde is as i only drove the car up and down the drive a couple of times:
right il stopp teasing you and show you the pictures
i know it wont drop much more, maby not even inuf to notice but i think its spot on how it is but the springs will need to bed in before they settle and im liking the hight just by looking at it
well chuffed
Coments welcome

As liam said they will need to settle first before you can really determin what they will be like. Good job though mate well done. I reckon it will sit just above the tyre once settled Looks loads better.
