The 'Cabbage' Build Thread
Hey guys, Though it was about time i put some pics up of my car.
My cars have always had names, And for reasons unknown to me 'Cabbage' has seemed to have stuck!
First of all, my life story:
I previously owned a Mk4 Golf, which went through a full restoration from scrapyard junk to deep and shiney slammed to the floor cornering perfection (imo so far.)
This was sold for £2600 as i fancied a new project.
With the changed i payed back my £2k debt and bought a 6N2 Gti for £1100.
And here it is:
As you can see the car is in pretty good condition, the paintworks great and the interior looks factory fresh despite the 124,000 on the clock.
Bad points:
-Needs new discs and pads all round
-Needs offside front wheel bearing replacing
-Has many chips on the windscreen
-ABS light was on, however after spending £159 on a scrapyard abs pump, i replaced the fuses first and the light turned off!!
Other than that though this cars a pearl. It seems so fast compared to my 1.4 16v golf, it puts a massive smile on my face. Since i have had it i have fully valletted and waxed it up a few times, Chequered the rear veiw mirror, De-badged and De-wipered the tailgate, and replaced the beesting ariel (not in pics)
Now.. Down the the build thread bit.
-My plan is to first get the bad points list corrected, and get an M.O.T and service.
-BCD sticker
-Next is to eliminate the gaps in the arches. (VW say its lowered 15mm, and im a monkeys uncle!) for this im using Fk street budget coilovers and fresh topmounts.
-Get the BBS RX2's refurbed and powder coated centres in a darker shade of grey.
something like this...
-Get a C-notch and ARB removed for lowwws
-Next up i want some hubcentric spacers to push my wheels out nicely and create some stance
-Next up on the list is i want the corroded boot handle repairing or replacing, and some dubmeister pressed plates to replace the tatty plastic ones.
-Finally a colour coded cd player preferably with Bluetooth capabilities, and a nice and neat boot install or high quality sound system (havent decided yet)
I am planning on putting uprated ARB's on the car, but havent sourced and Rear ones yet Apparently they just dont make them!
Also some strut bracing to make everything all ridgid. but these are in the distant future!
Anyway. You have seen the car as it is now, Watch this space guys!

Re: The 'Cabbage' Build Thread
I would agree with the comparrison, Just look at the power to weight ratio's!
The polo has the nicest dash in a car i have ever owned. Im very happy with it.
And dont worry dave you will be part of the build

Sounds interesting! I havent met this chap yet. Any pics or links?
Gazz - i love my mirrors, they are so small you its a struggle to see out of them. and for that reason, they are cool
impractical but cool.
And yeahhh they are nice wheels, thats why im refurbing them rather than just buying some others. I plan to get some winter wheels as well, not sure what yet. i have never had a spare set of wheels to use as winters before.
But yeah check out ED38 there are some cheap ones on there in black and purple i think
Thanks jord

Re: The 'Cabbage' Build Thread
Just a little update:
Both rear hubs, brake discs, brake pads and handbrake cables have been replaced.
Also both front discs and pads have been changed and The offside front hub has been replaced too.
The ABS pump has had to be replaced due the the ABS warning lamp returning to haunt me. And its booked in for monday to be coded into the car by MG raw VW specialist.
Liam noticed the track rod end had a split in it too, so that will need replacing and also the ARB link has broken on the weld so needs to be replaced as well.
Hopefuly will be on the road this week, if all goes well Cant wait to be on the road officially again!
Also replaced the ariel with the MK8 polo item

Re: The 'Cabbage' Build Thread
Turns out the abs pump fitted was faulty so i had to order a third one, which works fine once codded in. I fitted a new ARB link and re threaded the track rod end thread.
The car now finally has an MOT!
Although it had to be re-tested due to failing because of the tax disc being located in the top left of the windscreen instead of the bottom left..
Coilovers are on there way in the post. Pics to come

Re: The 'Cabbage' Build Thread
Finally got the car back from MTM gearbox specialists. Turn out they are very special and didnt remember to plug in my ABS and also managed to break some wires that head towards the lambda sensor, Leading to a less than exilharating ride home. Fortunatly an hours labour at MG Raw motor engineers (VW Specialist) and the car was running right again.
Well happy
Ive already started spoiling the car with some new gear. Also the BBS are being refurbed, Hopfully by the time they are finished the rest of the goodies will have arrived in the post and i will be posting pics up when stage one is complete!

Thanks dave.
Just spent the afternoon cleaning the beasty up and afterwards i got to work hiding all the nasty wiriing through the car for the speakers and amp in the boot. Now you would never know its there! Took some time though, Theres not much spare space for poking wires away in a polo!!
