Mk2 Build Thread
Though i'd add one of these as ive finally got my pictures sorted out, First pic is of the car in march 2010 before buying it for £800.
Horrible 17" 5 spokes, brand new suspension that was bodged in and only worked propperly at the rear offside, rear nearside had about an inch of play up and down, unbelievable how they managed to fuck that up haha (thats dodgey mates rates Leeds garages for you), but overall not bad for the price. On a + he fitted mk5 GTi seats.
Few more pics of it as it came:
Was so high on those alloys and suspension, was a wannabe mk2 4x4 haha, first things to go were those shocking alloys, replaced with BBS RA's, gave it a propper wash and polish, and did a bit with the trims as it had been sat 18 months.
Added the infamous jap can, car came with a full new standard exhaust system except the backbox which was wrecked, and the can came with the car in the boot so why not til it gets the scorp on, had so much else to buy it sorta got side tracked lol.
Next was the clutch, it was slipping at higher revs but only really in 3rd +, but then after some "sensible driving" with a mk4, it got to the point of constant slipping in 2nd so that needed doing.
The car still had a standard pieburg carb on, which was very old and then very replaced with a nice new 32/24 Weber, got a nice ITG foam filter to go on in the summer.
Slam panel in the car was bent, and had bolts missing so replaced that, and decided to complete its gti looks with a GTi grille and half smoked rears
Really like the look of it without the front bumper for some reason lol
Last thing done was the suspension, found some decently priced coilovers, so got them fitted last sunday.
Front fitted
Finished (for now )
Next job is to fit a black carpet set i just got, and then will start on the engine, looking at fitting a 1.8 top end, tappets are going in mine and if something needs replacing, may aswell upgrade haha.

Cheers, its one of the reasons i liked this car so much, not seen any others in that colour yet.
The wing got abused by someone whle i was in tesco less than 5 mins, now if i go i always park in disabled, if not take up 2 spaces lol, hate the fact that some peoples inabilty to park ruins so many nice cars.

Re: Mk2 Build Thread
Good build thread mate, like the car more now that i have seen when it started, noticed that your car is actually really clean behine the bumper and slam panel, has it been resprayed???? Looks so much better now you have lowered it, are you taking it any lower???
2 other things i have noticed too, one is what we all tell you but you need to get rid of the jap can, i have a gti back box if your intrested as your making it a gti look a like? Also what is going on with your rear wiper???? Is it just me or does it look tiny?

Cheers , yeah its had a respray about 3 years ago, but was garaged for around 18 months after that before i bought it so its still fairly new, and gonna keep it at the same height for now but gonna think about going lower in the summer
Yeah i know i really do need to change that exhaust lol, i actually have a twin pipe scorpion in the shed waiting but funds havnt allowed me to get it fitted, gonna be ringing that place in barton this weekend though to sort out a time i can take it in so it will be gone soon !
lemski wrote:de wiper it
To be honest im so used to seeing de wipered mk2's i didnt notice myself how small it is lmao, yeah i want it de wipered, going to sort that when ive got enough ££ to get all the bodywork done at once, theres not much, just the wings and a spot on the boot but getting a new rear bumper without the tow bar so il want that sprayed aswell.

Re: Mk2 Build Thread
How do you get away with getting over the harsh speed bumps / drives etc?, my driveway got lowered not long ago, but how the car is now it sounds like its pulling my splitter off no matter what angle i go in

Re: Mk2 Build Thread
Looks spot on dude. Interior is fantastic. Did they have to do any fabrication work to get the rear seat in?
Re: Mk2 Build Thread
Just bolted in by the looks of it, havn't seen any drastic changes back there, but they didnt protect under the car where theyve drilled through, everything done seems half arsed which is costing more and more to put right
Few more pics i didn't add yesterday:
Front coil fitted, on car view
Scorpion exhaust, bargain at £26 i reckon, seen some go for £40+
Will deffinately be fitted before the next meet, so i wont have to take any more abuse for the jap can

Re: Mk2 Build Thread
We have the same zaust. It will never sit straight! p.s tell me if you figure out how to make it sit straight lol
Re: Mk2 Build Thread
Why dont you fit the exhaust yourself, it will be easy and save you money, plus de wiper it yourself too, i have a how to do it somewhere on my computer i will pm you it, its not that hard to do.
It is a common fault with a lot of mk2's that the exhaust dont sit stright but there is ways around it, mount a bracket on the otherside, you can even get the rubber straps that sit under around the the back box then mount it that way but i have also seen doing it this way the exhaust can rattle abit too, only best way is to play around with it.
If you need help with the exhaust let me know and i will pop over and help you do it mate.

Re: Mk2 Build Thread
Nice one cheers for the offer, couple of problems i might have though is my exhausts for a gti, not 100% sure but is it different from the driver exhaust? i know theres 2 types thats all.
Other problem is part of my exhaust has also been cut and adjusted so that the backbox on it now will fit in the mountings propperly, so not sure whether it can be fitted straight or if il need a custom section of pipe making or replace whats been cut.
