2 dead gti's. HELP NEEDED
well lets get started.
1st the neg. (1.8 16v)
put my facet red top fuel pump on to day. went to start car and wont fire up and when it does sound like only running on 2 cylinders.
have 12v to the pump. fuel pressure regulator says no pressure or very little
bypassed this to see if it would start and still nothing.
i'm stuck on what it is.
2nd the beast. (1.8 8V)
went to bump martins car as its having starting issues which we now no what it is.
the priming on the pump doesnt stop and eventually flooded the engine but has only just started happening.
again stuck what it could be.
please somebody help ig you know what it could be or theres 2 mk2 gtis not at the meet on sunday.

i had a quick check.
its not the lift pump thats doing it like we thought its just the main pump not shutting off and nothing is stopping the fuel just pouring into the inlet.

well your welcom eto mine mate. apparently on the facet ump, they have to be mounted a certain level from the fpr or the fpr fuel bowl doesnt fill n retain preesure. would be okay but we have bypassed that and still no look. av looked every where for this stuff. o and also make sure your relay and fuses are fine.

i see, and no wont need mine, av foun d startin issues but cant seem to find any one who speaks sence about how a facet fuel pump should be fitted with the regulator

is the beast a conversion? have you got the return line to the tank? if so is it blocked?

yup the beast has been converted from a 1.6 driver.
the returns are connected,litrally swapped everything off the gti onto it.only took 6 days.
have had the odd wiring issue with it.the pump was working fine and shutting off like it should before the lights shorted out just behind the switch which ment i had to swap the fuse box so something must be wrong there.

apparently i have to moutn my facet uprite like a can of bear with the hex at the bottom. hmmm. shall try this tomorow, and it should only click when priming up.

pulled all the plugs out to drain the engine of fuel.
cranked it over and got soaked in petrol while i was stood at the drivers door because it sprayed that far.
managed to get it running with both pumps disconnected.as soon as i connected the main pump it died.
i think its the relay not clicking off so i think i need a new number 80 relay

also need to change the oil aswell as it is full of petrol where it has seeped past the piston rings over night.
fortunatly i had already bought an oil and filter but hadnt fitted them yet.

gti pump n filter back on. car still wont fucking start. hmmm..... tomorow more jubalee clips and maybe new fuel lines. i dont know though

the 8v is it a digi ? if so the ecu is foobed make sure the earth lead to the body from gearbox is ok and clean , then get another ecu for it mines done this twice fills the bores with fuel untill it wont turn over any more

yep that then blows the ecu , i put a clutch in mine and disturbed the earth lead then the week after my ecu went pop AGAIN , dont think ive got one knocking about but have got about 5 foobed ones as i found out if you dont go round and make sure ALL your earth leads are good then it just knackers the new ones too, passat ones will get u going but you would be better finding a gti one .

dunno realy mate but im 99% sure it will cure your problem , its a common prob with digifant cars, the first time mine did it the previous owner took it for mot they it passed he went to pick it up and then wouldnt start same as yours just kept priming he couldnt find what was up with it tryed everything ,then sold it to me for next to nothing i put some earth leads on it and an ecu and it struck up fine !

it does still run though its just as soon as i plug the fuel pump back in it dies.

it will... with only one pump its suplying enough fuel to run prob badly then when you plug the other pump in its just flooding and cutting out what ever goes wrong with the ecu makes the injectors stay wide open all the time, second hand ones are only 20-30quid would be worth trying

i was hoping to get it sorted tomorrow.but if its the ecu its going to take a while to get one so i wouldnt be able to make the meet.
it was running with both pumps disconnected.it still ran when the in tank one was connected but died as soon as the main pump was connected.
both the in tank one and the main pump are running constantly and not cutting off thats why i was hoping it was the relay just not shutting off.

there arnt any mk2`s in the scrappys around here.
i would need the ecu by tommorow really so i doubt i could get one in time.and i cant even got to collect one either way

Sounds to my like the ECU is to blame too...if the fuel pump relay, Thats the little one that should switch off the pump once its primed unless the car is started, had failed, then the car would still run once started... the fact that its flooding would suggest the injectors are stuck wide open, which would suggest the ecu is not controlling them :S
As for Neg, are u sure its not just a massive air lock once you've put the old pump back on liam? are u getting fuel to the injectors at all??
