Wiztic wrote:Sounds to my like the ECU is to blame too...if the fuel pump relay, Thats the little one that should switch off the pump once its primed unless the car is started, had failed, then the car would still run once started... the fact that its flooding would suggest the injectors are stuck wide open, which would suggest the ecu is not controlling them :S
As for Neg, are u sure its not just a massive air lock once you've put the old pump back on liam? are u getting fuel to the injectors at all??
fuel all the way threw it. and u could ask dave if you could borrow his other ecu until u can source one. worth a go

Re: 2 dead gti's. HELP NEEDED
I.ve got a relay if you can replace it in the future.
I.ve got a chipped ecu you can borrow but slightly concerned it may meet the same fate as the current one!

Re: 2 dead gti's. HELP NEEDED
Well if its getting fuel then that cant be the issue? Unless the pressure is way off? You've not missed something simple like a blown fuse when you changed the pump or a wire left off? We all miss the easy stuff when focusing on bigger problems :S

Re: 2 dead gti's. HELP NEEDED
thats why i dont want to borrow one really.
i cant risk damaging somone elses as i cant afford to pay much if i did.let alone a chipped one which would be even more expensive.
i could try the relay and prey that it is that but its not looking hopeful.
car has been running fine for a week but developed a starting issue which turned out to be the loose earth on the gearbox so it looks like it is very likely to be the ecu.

Re: 2 dead gti's. HELP NEEDED
I've only just seen this, haven't read it all so I might be a bit late but Martin your ECU is definately dead and I can almost guarantee you've killed it with a bad earth. I did exactly the same thing when I first converted my carb mk2 to digifant gti. I have a spare ECU you can have for £20 (what I paid for it) and its been tested on my car so I know it works. Its 100% critical that you get the earth strap from the rocker cover to the caoil pack on the bulkhead right, make sure the surfaces are bare metal and the strap is good, fit a new earth cable or a second one if you like, I did this to make sure I didn't keep blowing them as I went through 3 ECUs till I found the problem! Dead ECU's will make your injectors stay open and will flood the engine full of fuel whenever the ignition is on! Hope I'm not too late with this info....

nope all to do with the new direction of neg. new fueling and ignition system. give some more power out a set of new cams as i dont like these ones and then resparay and neg is ready as my daily. o and more new brakes.
i could want a 600 quid fuel pump but dont need 22bar of fuel pressure nor do i want it.
martin did dave bring them parts too late then?
