Adi's GTI powered '86 golf GL
I really can't be bothered to do a whole project thread on this as so much has happened, so I'l make it brief. I bought this 1986 golf 1.8 GL last August fairly cheap, and standard. This was how it looked...
Then I bought a rotten 1989 8v gti for £150 for a donor (and luckily the G60 arches on it paid for the car when I sold them)
Then I stripped it bare, sold loads off it, and fitted the seats, all wiring looms, clocks, stalks (for functional MFA), supersport -60mm springs and shocks, exhaust, pumps, a few lights, engine and gearbox. In between doing the conversion and selling bits off the donor I bought a polished twin gti backbox, early gti arch spats, jetta gti door cards, and the P slots. Now the conversion is done this is how it looks now...

Cheers mate, yea I know this car inside and out now! Only things left to do are sort the rounded off caliper bolt and fit my new gti front brakes, clean up the disc rear beam and fit it, and eventually sort out the bodywork, the roof has shocking laquer peel, as does the original bonnet, and its aquired a few extra dents and scratches while it was in my garage which I'm not too pleased about. Hopefully picking up some gti steels cheap tomorrow so I can put the P's up for sale, I fancy some RA's now, but with black centres and a polished lip

Can be arranged about the wheels mate, easy enough job as long as the wheels are in good condition when you buy them as the RA's are a nightmare to refurb.
What about heating the caliper bolt up and slowly twisting it out or is that bad you totally cant grip the bolt? Is going to have to be a drill out and tap and thread job????
Did it come with lecky windows?

Re: Adi's GTI powered '86 golf GL
Cheers mate, my plan when I got it was to keep it plain and simple. It come with electric windows, but I don't think it had them when new as they were wired into a whole load of clifford stuff on the old loom. I wired them up the other day as the donor car had windy windows. The caliper bolt used to be a torx bit, or an allen key bolt, it was rounded off before I touched it. Heating it up isn't possible at the mo, but I'm gonna try my stillies on and hope it works, them solid discs are shocking!

I know ts dark, but I couldn't resist, looks so different now! My only disappointment is it now looks a bit like a gti, and that was the look I was avoiding, but I prefer the RA's

Yea I'l take some better pics, although the car is in a shameful state of dirtiness until I clean it on Sunday morning. They look more than an inch bigger than the P's though which is wierd
