My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
Well i suppose as one of the site organisors i should really post my car on here
Here goes, this is what she started life as when i got her and then what she looks like now.
So then i decided that i should start work stright away as the charger was plumbed stright into the inlet meaning it was just sucking in hot air
So bought this and plumbed it in
So once fitted realised that the grill wouldnt fit back in with the spot lites so nexted had to be a single headlight grill
Then the exhaust needed upgrading to a better sounding one
Still have the center section to fit as need to sort the lambda sonsor out before i can fit it, but sounding awsome, will try post vid up of it soon.
Next where my brakes and clipers
So the fronts are all sorted just got the rear ones left to do but i am waiting on some new rear wheel bearings before i fit them
Next i went on to the suspension, bought some Boge shocks and springs, lowered 60mm all round
Then i wanted to give the engine a bit of a clean
A few of my car in the snow and a few snow mods too
Anyway getting there slowly, still got my summer alloys to refurb which will be my next job
Put some little decals on the car the other day which i really like
and last but not least just a pic that i really really like
Let me know what you all think

mate you need to start your own build thread, doesnt matter what it looks like now, get it up here and then you can reflect on what it started like to what you have done to it

the RA's mate, thats what I want next I think they're 6j, same as the RAs cuz they run 185 width tyres as standard just like RAs do.

Re: My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
I've only just cottoned onto this, but did you buy this car locally? There was a lad in Horncastle called Stuart Willerton who owned a G plate white 8v gti just like this was as you bought it and he did a G60 conversion on it, but it was wearing small bumpers when I last saw it, I wonder if its the same car?

You'l have the same brakes my car had before I converted it. You can fit 239mm (8v gti) vented discs and pads to your standard calipers. I also fitted a 16v master cylinder as well.

Re: My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
calipers shouldnt be wide enough, tried them in mine. 20mm disck thickness and brand new pads exceed the 1.6 driver calipers

Re: My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
Mine fitted perfectly, and I'm 90% sure 1.8 carb calipers are the same as 1.6 ones. My old discs were shitty 239mm solid ones

Re: My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
i know martin and his 1.6. royal blue one. he can fit his wheel on with his calipers, but on min eneed 5mm spacers to clear the caliper. also if you get vented discs for the 1.6 ther 15mm thick not 20 from omp. just relaying my knowledge on the subject

If I'm wrong (which I'm sure I'm not) then I have some 8v gti calipers spare (which are the same as mine )

Re: My Mk2 5dr G60 Project
Cheers Sakers for the comments, if we get a sec i will take you out in it next time at college. Remind me to give you those stickers i was on about too.
Liam, my updates will be happening soon, i think i will update it sat, as i am having to fix my clutch pedal, fitting new manifold, center section and work have said i can have a pipercross induction kit (but it is special designed panal filter one that was made for their track car). Then next week im fitting the new rear disc's. Cant bloody wait
O yeah and most likely sort my back box out, shorten it so it is sat a bit higher and mount it properly too
Adi, this is not the one you have cottened onto as i bought this from a bloke near newcastle soo very doutful it wuld be the same one.
