Jacko's Mk2 Jetta TX Project
Time for a build thread.......
I have a Mk2 Jetta TX that my parents bought as a runabout for a while.
When they bought it, it was a 1 previous, old guy owner with bugger all mileage on it (can't remember how many) and pretty much mint.
The only pic I can find of the day it arrived.
The parents ran it for a year or so and decided to get something more modern again so I had a choice - keep the Mk3 Polo I was running at the time or have the Jetta. The Jetta won! I had a load of spares from an 8v GTi Jetta that I had been running until the tinworm caught up with it.
First job was to sort the brakes out (the master cylinder was playing silly buggers) so on went a set of Passat uprights, 280mm G60 discs, Wilwood 4 pot calipers and a 16v master cylinder. The original suspension was tired so on went a Weitec 40mm drop kit and in went the interior from the GTi as the drivers seat had collapsed.
Ran it like this for a while until the urge to go lower became too strong so on went a set of Jamex coilovers and G60 steels. I also converted the boot to the early style without the big black plastic number plate plinth and fitted the spoiler off the GTi.
Then I wanted more power (not really surprising with a 1600!) so I converted to GTi exhaust manifold & downpipe, Jetex system and dropped in a Kent GS2 cam (this was more for a giggle than anything else as I thought the Peeburg carb wouldn't cope). The old girl would then rev to 7000 rpm and pulled like a train, 110mph+ was easy (on private land of course occifer )
I then decided to take it off the road for a freshen up and makeover at the end of 2008 - which is where it still is and things haven't really progressed.
It needs a back arch, a pair of wings and a handful of small patches (not bad for a 20 year old car!).
The major stumbling block is a lack of cash to do what I want. I have a 9a 2 litre short block 16v that is in the process of being rebuilt which will be on a pair of Weber 45s to go in, it will be on Mk3 GTi wishbones, engine mounts, hubs (so 5 stud) and rear beam and I want to strip all the sound deadening and underseal off the shell...........

This ain't gonna be no track slag - it'll be built as a pukka rally car with cage, guards, seats etc. Plan is to have a fuel tank in the boot, plastic windows, lightened to f@ck rear doors, nothing thats not needed to make it quicker and lighter!!!

It might get done this year, but as I'm currently skint, unemployed and its cold it won't happen just yet.
When I get the engine built it'll probably spur me into action to get the shell done.

This car needs a ton of weedkiller pouring in it to get rid of the "greenhouse effect" it has going on
