project:1.6 driver,aka the beast

1990 1.6 driver bought for the bargain price of £300
pictures of it as it was when i bought it.



1.6 driver

very shortly afterwards the coiloves were bought and fitted in the snow :grin:

again very shortly after fitting coilovers(2 days) i had a small accident,was a patch of diesel or oil on a corner

decided i couldnt get rid of it so i bought another to use as parts


damage done

the repaires were all completed within a week and she was back on the road :smiley:

cue a set of matching wheels

then came the straight through exhaust system

after driving it like that for some time i found a set of big bumpers in the right colour :smiley:

sat nice and low

the a garage ripped my bumper off on one of their ramps

got bored one day and decided to try something


8 ball

found a nice set of alloys for £30 so obviously had to buy them


then began the engine cleaning


did look very clean at one point but was very difficult to keep that way

few other things i have done to the golf
engine dumped all the water out on a motorway.temp guage went to 0 and engine overheated badly.
one swift engine swap later

stiil a 1.6 driver engine

also have fitted bucket seats and omp harnesses

front end as it looks now


as you can see i have gone back to the 8 balls and small bumpers


finally the fuel flap

i have finally got my new wheels on,just need to alter the arches tomorrow to compensate for the lower off set. :cool:

what do you think looks better on my wheels,

or polished spokes(spokes in photo havent been polished)

second wheel is now painted and polished.

im going to repolish the first one as it hasnt came up aswell as this one.
im still not sure if i should polish the spokes or not :undecided:

i am leaving the centers black for now(cant polish them till the paint has hardened fully)


also cleaned and painted my drums because they are visable through the spokes

all previous posts were copied off golfgtiforum as i couldnt be bothered to redo it all so some parts may not make sence.
do need to update with a few other bits but i havent got any pgotos yet.

mate that looks well good, av seen it rolling about gy and riby. looks just like ,y mate martins aswell.

Loving the 8 ball wheels, I was considoring putting mine on steels and lowering him but now I want 8 balls

it is looking good dude. for what my opinion is worth, when its time for new tyres, go lower profile. they currently look a bit balooney

hes off lower profile dave, wants the car to be lower yet.

as i took the pictures am going to ruin the surprise. martin has a donner gti, h reg, alpine white, look like kais which is quite funny. them jokes have passed though. basically today was spent strippin the driver down to no engine ready to took the wires in the bay and gti lump to go in. and we started getting gti engine ready for the out. i'll put pics up later.

still to be done.
swap rear axles
bolt up gti subframe and engine
put brakes on
hide wiring loom
plug and play
start
bleed brakes.


work starts again tomorow

ok then dude hope u find it so the fruits of our labour can be seen
