Re: Potter!MK3 Golf(Engine build time!!)Bought another mk3 too :P
Soooo bit of an update(ive not been tossing it off just dealing with other peoples shite)
Decided to bite the bullet and roll my arches! Was possibly the most stressful thing i have ever done but after lots of heat and lots of screaming from the missus for using her new hairdryer i got the job done with not an ounce of cracked paint!Flucking result!
So i decided while i was under there i would stonechip the arches after a thorough clean up.
Also while i was under there i decided i wasnt happy having mk3 rear calipers when i could have the better mk4 calipers so i bought a set with Goodridge braided conversion hoses, cleaned them up and painted them with some Savage black caliper paint.
I also decided that i wanted to correct the poor toe in on the rears and maybe get a bit of neg camber so i ordered some camber shims and got to work.
Fitted up the new calipers and hoses etc and bled the bitch up.
Now me being me and being super anal i didnt want to use the original stub axle bolts even though they say you can,so i wanted 8 more 10.9 m10x40mm(about 10mm longer)
Trying to find these was a bitch.even though im in engineering i struggled so in the end,£28 later i had this on my doorstep!
Job done anyway. All bolted up and just finished lowering it back onto its wheels and here it is with -1deg neg camber and i adjusted the bad toe in by 0.36.
Im chuffed with that  so ive just got to whip the helpers out the front for a little bit more lows but i might not do that till after the mot so i can get on the ramps.
Also while i was at it i fitted some mirror polished door lock bolts
New pressed metal plates(legal) and plate holders although im wishing i got all black ones.
I also got a STORM smoove cover for the single wiper to tidy it up a bit.
Thats it for now,the retrimmer has the material and is half way through my headliner so hopefully that will be back next week.
Will see if i can pick any bits up at Elsecar and maybe see 1 or 2 of you there.

Sooo ive just got back from the most stressful ride in the back of a van ever!
Picked the headliner, sunroof panel and rear speaker grills up from the retrimmer.
He's reinforced all the weak spots on the headliner with fibreglass but i still wasnt taking any chances!
Sat in the back of a van floor hugging it for dear life FTW!
Pics
Really pleased with the job, hopefully get it fitted tomorrow and ive give him a few more bits to trim now i know he does the job well.
In other news yesterday i stripped the rest of the block down and whipped the crank out etc, ready to be sent to Hull with Dmondays for a bore polish, dip deck skim and leak test.

Looks amazing dude! Well worth the carfull ride home if you ask me, I would be concerned about damaging it while putting it in though, You may not work well with vinyl and sticky stuff but im worse when working upside down
Might pop down tomorrow to say hi at some point, need to charge up my batery as its gone flat

Anyway been a nice day today sooo the interior went back together, the headliner is in.smells pleasant and the stereo has been plumbed back in!
Pics
Thing left to do on the interior.
Detail it and condition the leather.
Remove the tacky chrome gear gaitor surround
Remove and replace the red fag lighter.
Buy a surround for the new headunit.
Order new rear trim clips from vw.
Sit in it and move the electric seat backwards and forwards.
Pretty damn chuffed with it.

Cant believe its nearly a year since it was sprayed. Its also still not turned a wheel on the road
At least the paint still looks fresh when detailed

So thats it then ive pretty much done all the big jobs bar the engine so it was detailing time ready for the mot.
Ive not let the paint get bad but im really anal about it and i wanted its 1st outing to look good so i got all my detailing gear out ive been collecting and set to work.
As you can see the thing was real dusty
So i washed it using the 2 bucket method using Dodojuice Born to be Mild and then i clayed it with some Sonus Ultrafine clay and Dodojuice Born Slippy Lube :smug:
I then dried it with a fluffy microfibre towel and in the hard to reach areas i blew out with the air gun on the compressor.
Then it was tape up the trim time.
I then did a 2 pass with Menzerna Final Finish and a White Hexlogic pad.
Then after that i gave it a coat of Dodojuice Lime Prime to cleanse the paint, then 2 coats of Poorboys Black Hole with a Black Lake Country CCS pad, then 2 coats of Jetseal 109 and then to top it off I used Swissvax Best of Show wax.
I then polished the wheels and dressed all trim in Autoglym Bumper care and then hit the windows with some Carlack cleanser and then the cream sealant.
Then for the interior i used Auto Finesse Tripple for the door shuts,Mercedes Starguard to condition the leather and then i brushed the suede headliner with a furry gerbil i found next door.
End result.
Thats it.I also fitted a new mint scuttle panel aand cleaned my exhaust inside and out with Meguiars NXT metal polish.
Next job is mot it which i cant see it not passing.
Then run the mother fluffer!
I would imagine most of my next updates will be of the engine build.
After a 12 hour polish fest yesterday i sat back and had a few beers while looking at what ive done over the past year and a half and im pretty pleased.
The engine build is going to be my favourite part of the build so expect lots more to come.

Not much to add really apart from
IM ON THE ROAD!
MOT today,went straight through.(eventually)
I triple checked everything before it went away got a mile away and found the n/s front brake was binding badly!
Had to pull into a garage and poor 3 litres of water over it,scream home, get it up in the air and strip the brakes down and took 5mm off all the pads.Everything is new so i guess it was just being mardy!
Managed to get it all done in 20 mins and then flew up to the mot station in good time.
Bare in mind this is the 1ST TIME ive ever drove this car!It went well and drives real nice and im well chuffed!
Took it off driveway insurance and taxed it and im away!
Couple of poor pics at the station.
Will finally be able to go take some shots of it somewhere other than my drive!
I still have a bit of a chubby as its on the road!

Yeah an engine and possibly air will be next, just a pleasure driving it ATM.
I tried to get in the scrappy but it was full to bursting point with mk2's with rotten subframes
Re: Potter!MK3 Golf(Engine build time!!)Bought another mk3 too :P
Just a little update.Poor old Potter has been used as the daily for a few weeks now.Running an absolute treat too.
Just got her car back on the road so i treated the mk3 to a new MOMO Race steering wheel and Momo snap off boss.
Also got round to fitting the G23 Engineering cnc machined keyring.Gave it a polish up naturally lol.
I also bought some new bumper indicator/fogs.I never took a pic as they are exactly the same as the others but mine had a tiny bit of condensation in them which bugged me.
Ive also started collating a few bits from work for the air ride should it happen, and now the womans car is done i can start on my vr6 lump!Wahay

Don't you just love how small and close together mk3 clocks are? Something that always bugged me, a but like Rodney Trotter's eyes

Id not noticed until you just mentioned it lol.
Im considering S3 clocks when the engine goes in but im concerned it will look too modern.

Re: Potter!MK3 Golf(Engine build time!!)Bought another mk3 too :P
If I was unlucky enough to own a mk3 again I'd consider any other clocks, I just don't like how the dash has such a big opening for them, but then it kinda closes into a little cave with clocks right at the bottom. Its like looking into a BIG fanny with a tight hole
But I'm a hypocrit as when my mk2 goes all mk3 I'm very much considering a mk3 dash swap including clocks

Yeah you will have all the mk3 goodies but at the end of the day it will still just be another rusty mk2..............
Re: Potter!MK3 Golf(Engine build time!!)Bought another mk3 too :P
I'l have you know there is no rust on my mk2 well, not on the shell anyway
When is engine work commencing? Did your string-line tracking work?
