Project Klause, sie German mk 2
I've had this 1990 mk2 GTI 8v almost a year now, and done almost nothing too him
So I thought its about time I started...he's 20 years old so as you can imagion hes got the odd scratch and dent, even a little rust...but he's solid enough, heres some pics and some problems:
Need to do something about his ride hight, maybe even the colour of the wheels...Red?
He's tidy enough inside:
Apart from the underside of the driver side dash (need a new one?)
And the usual spot on the driver seat bolster:
and the engine bay has seen better days (pb power though )
Found some red metal paint and thought I would see how the rear wiper looked:
Also, painted my badge to match:
oh, and the roof lining has sagged at the back, but it dont come out well on photo...
any help, advice and ideas welcome, and I will also update as and when I get the time and the money

That lower dash looks like it just needs screwing back up, I have loads of spare dash screws from my donor car. You have the seats I want, I have blue suede jetta gti door cards with the red cheque gti seats, been after some blue cheque ones to match them! As for the wheels, if it was mine I'd just give them a fresh coat of silver and mirror polish the lips, RA's look awesome with polished lips, and I'm gonna be doing mine And get something done about the grey plastics! It'l transform the look of the car if you get all the black trim black again. Plenty of ways to do it, heat gun, peanut butter, autoglym bumper care etc..

hehe...aye, love the interior on mine, although I wouldn't mind a rainbow one in good nic. As for the wheels, dont have the money to refurb them atm, so I was just gonna spray them with red metal paint...dont wanna ruin them though so I dunno. Aye, I'm waiting for a warm day to do my plastics, I've heard linseed oil works? Although I'm interested to hear about peanut butter???

Just rub smooth peanut butter into the plastic mouldings, the oil in it brings out the blackness and lasts ages, but beware the squirrels will try and eat your car If you don't fancy driving a food smelling car then a hairdryer will do the job but will take you ages! I use autoglym bumper care on mine, only trouble with that stuff is dust sticks to it badly!

If you take the roof liner out mate, take loads of pics and make a guide for the haynes section! I'm wanting to retrim mine (not saggy, its beige), and a saggy roof liner is a common mk2 problem, might help others

roof liner is pretty simple. if and when you are ready i can polish your lips for £140 for the 4.
interior looks good.

35 a lip. hmmmm, dave you seem to just get your business out there like, pow. and well i'll bring that lower bit if its not needed no biggy it'll go back in the garage til someone may need it. i would retrim rooflining in red, to go with badge and wheels when there done.

Re: Project Klause, sie German mk 2
i dont know mate as its done on a wheel machine, but people who do it by hand obvously dont charge as much as they dont have to use electric and what not. but i spose advertising gets the work in. i'd let you do my bbs's but am hopin martin will do them for me when i get the paint, and then he can polish my lips. do you laquer them after

I know a bloke who does them at 100 for 4, but he does it by hand with a dremel and flap wheels/buffing wheels.

Good to see it in the metal yesterday. Looks good but certainly has potential to be a cracker. Sorry i didn't really get to speak to you, i'll try and get that hazard switch cover tonight.

This car deserves better than cheap coilovers. It needs a good clean up and detail, wheel refurb and proper 60mm shocks and springs. Will hold its vaule better that way

Re: Project Klause, sie German mk 2
nowt wrong with cheap coilovers, martins is a nicer ride than mine is and his are cheaper. there all made the same pretty much, you only pay for the brand name just like everything else
